Asa’s Bakery is a retail bakery located in the Nokomis Neighborhood of South Minneapolis, focused on naturally leavened sourdough breads, bagels, bialys, schmears and to-go sandwiches.
Position Details
Asa’s Bakery is looking for an assistant baker for 24 hours a week.
Compensation: Starting at $18-$23 an hour depending on experience
Benefits: Sick and Safe time/PTO
Covid Safety: At this time the bakery is take-out only and requires masks for all staff and customers. Break room is in basement and lunches are staggered for staff safety. HVAC system purports a high degree of viral filtering. The owner takes staff and customer safety seriously.
Schedule: Schedule will be Wednesdays 7am-3pm, Thursdays 5am-1pm and Saturdays 5am-1pm. There may be opportunities to increase hours if wanted.

Responsibilities
- Boiling bagels, and baking bread and bagels.
- Scaling and mixing dough, managing fermentation, shaping bread and bagels.
- Making cookies, scones, quick breads.
- Processing fruits and vegetables as ingredients for baked goods.
- Collaborator on developing new products and processes.
- Complies with sanitation regulations and safety standards.
- Maintains a clean and organized environment by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces.
Qualifications
- Experience baking in a commercial bakery setting; or serious home baking experience with other commercial kitchen experience
- Knife skills
- Attention to detail
- Can perform repetitive tasks with consistency
- Interest in products
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
- Must be able to work early mornings.
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, climb stairs, and lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in a kitchen environment where the employee is frequently exposed to heat, steam, and noise.
